WASHINGTON (AP) \u2014 President Barack Obama is citing major gains in fighting the Ebola outbreak in West Africa and says the goal now is to prevent any new cases.<\/p>\n
Obama was meeting Wednesday with the presidents of Liberia, Guinea and Sierra Leone to get a handle on the current situation.<\/p>\n
Ebola has killed more than 10,000 people in the yearlong-plus outbreak. But Obama says there were fewer than 40 cases in the region last week.<\/p>\n
The United States was part of an international effort to confront Ebola. At its height, there were fears of a much wider outbreak.<\/p>\n
Obama says the three African countries at the center of the outbreak need to have their health systems rebuilt and their economies restored.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
