Susan Nimoy, confirmed his death to the New York Times<\/a>, saying the cause was end-stage chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Nimoy, who was 83, announced he was suffering from the illness last year.<\/p>\nPeople who knew Nimoy were quick to share condolences on social media, including Zachary Quinto, who has played the iconic character in the J.J. Abrams reboot of the series said, “my heart is broken. i love you profoundly my dear friend. and i will miss you everyday. may flights of angels sing thee to thy rest,” on Instagram.<\/p>\n
William Shatner, a long time friend of the actor, who played Captian James Kirk in original series said,\u00a0“I loved him like a brother. We will all miss his humor, his talent, and his capacity to love,” according to E news.<\/p>\n
Even President Obama tweeted “I loved Spock,” on the official White House Twitter account.<\/p>\n
While Nimoy was best known for playing Spock, but he was also an accomplished director, musician and photographer.<\/p>\n
