{"id":16626,"date":"2014-11-20T06:38:13","date_gmt":"2014-11-20T12:38:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tigermedianet.com\/?p=16626"},"modified":"2017-08-14T10:39:38","modified_gmt":"2017-08-14T15:39:38","slug":"womens-basketball-sets-scoring-record-in-home-opener-defeats-mcpherson-120-39","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tigermedianet.com\/?p=16626","title":{"rendered":"Women&#8217;s Basketball sets scoring record in home opener, defeats McPherson 120-39"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Fort Hays State rolled to a 120-39 victory over McPherson College in its home opener, setting a school record for points in a single game on Wednesday (Nov. 19) at Gross Memorial Coliseum.<\/p>\n<p>FHSU (2-1) was dominant from the field, shooting 58.8 percent from the field, including a 19-of-30 effort in the second half (63.3 percent).\u00a0 From long range, FHSU hit on 55.6 percent of its attempts (10-of-18). As a team, the Tigers outrebounded the Bulldogs, 49-19 and dished out an impressive 28 assists in the win.<\/p>\n<p>The Tigers opened the game on an 11-0 run in the first 2:56 and never looked back.\u00a0 After stretching the lead to 16 (27-11) just inside the 10-minute mark, the Tigers put together a 28-2 run that lasted over eight minutes, and included two separate runs of 13 and 15 unanswered.\u00a0 <dfn><a id=\"sidearmAd1\" href=\"http:\/\/www.fhsuathletics.com\/roster.aspx?rp_id=2498\" rel=\"smarttag\" rev=\"2498\">Kate Lehman<\/a><\/dfn> had 10 points for FHSU during the stretch.<\/p>\n<p>At the break, FHSU led the Bulldogs by 40 (58-18).\u00a0 Lehman led all scorers with 22 points at the pause.<\/p>\n<p>The second half began in similar fashion to the first, with the Tigers running off nine unanswered in the first 3:28 of play.\u00a0 Combined with the end of the first half, FHSU&#8217;s run was its third 13-0 burst of the night.<\/p>\n<p>Inside 16 minutes to play, Fort Hays State took full control with a 27-0 run that lasted 7:02.\u00a0 Up by 49 (70-21), a layup from Lehman started a run that saw nine separate Tigers score, giving FHSU a 95-21 advantage.<\/p>\n<p>FHSU&#8217;s final double-digit run of the night began at the 8:14 mark on a layup from <dfn><a id=\"sidearmAd2\" href=\"http:\/\/www.fhsuathletics.com\/roster.aspx?rp_id=2496\" rel=\"smarttag\" rev=\"2496\">Payton Hoeme<\/a><\/dfn>.\u00a0 From there, FHSU ran off eight more points unanswered, including a pair of free throws from <dfn><a id=\"sidearmAd3\" href=\"http:\/\/www.fhsuathletics.com\/roster.aspx?rp_id=2502\" rel=\"smarttag\" rev=\"2502\">Christine Russell<\/a><\/dfn> that pushed FHSU past the century mark for the first time this season.<\/p>\n<p><dfn><a id=\"sidearmAd4\" href=\"http:\/\/www.fhsuathletics.com\/roster.aspx?rp_id=2504\" rel=\"smarttag\" rev=\"2504\">Jenna Ulrich<\/a><\/dfn>&#8216;s free throw with 1:35 to go set a new single game scoring record for the school, breaking the previous mark of 116 (set against Stephens College on Nov. 15, 2006).\u00a0 Hoeme&#8217;s three-pointer with one minute to go was the Tigers&#8217; final field goal of the night, as the game ended with an 81-point scoring margin in FHSU&#8217;s favor, 120-39.<\/p>\n<p>Lehman led all scorers with 30 points, adding eight rebounds while just missing a double-double.\u00a0 The performance was her second career game with at least 30 points.<\/p>\n<p>Four other Tigers hit double-digits in scoring, as <dfn><a id=\"sidearmAd5\" href=\"http:\/\/www.fhsuathletics.com\/roster.aspx?rp_id=2495\" rel=\"smarttag\" rev=\"2495\">Jill Faxon<\/a><\/dfn> (15 points), Hoeme (11 points), <dfn><a id=\"sidearmAd6\" href=\"http:\/\/www.fhsuathletics.com\/roster.aspx?rp_id=2493\" rel=\"smarttag\" rev=\"2493\">Beth Bohuslavsky<\/a><\/dfn> (11 points) and <dfn><a id=\"sidearmAd7\" href=\"http:\/\/www.fhsuathletics.com\/roster.aspx?rp_id=2501\" rel=\"smarttag\" rev=\"2501\">Sarah Pimentel<\/a><\/dfn> (10 points) ranked among the team leaders.<\/p>\n<p>Bohuslavsky added four assists and four rebounds in the effort, going a perfect 3-for-3 from long range.\u00a0 Joining her from the guard position, <dfn><a id=\"sidearmAd8\" href=\"http:\/\/www.fhsuathletics.com\/roster.aspx?rp_id=2497\" rel=\"smarttag\" rev=\"2497\">Nikola Kacperska<\/a><\/dfn> played well in 13 minutes of action, dishing out a team-high six assists to go with six rebounds. <dfn><a id=\"sidearmAd9\" href=\"http:\/\/www.fhsuathletics.com\/roster.aspx?rp_id=2499\" rel=\"smarttag\" rev=\"2499\">Paige Lunsford<\/a><\/dfn>&#8216;s five assists was second highest on the team, matching her five rebounds.<\/p>\n<p>Overall, seven Tigers set or tied career-highs in points, rebounds or assists in the contest, with three players (<dfn><a id=\"sidearmAd10\" href=\"http:\/\/www.fhsuathletics.com\/roster.aspx?rp_id=2506\" rel=\"smarttag\" rev=\"2506\">Kristin Huser<\/a><\/dfn>, <dfn><a id=\"sidearmAd11\" href=\"http:\/\/www.fhsuathletics.com\/roster.aspx?rp_id=2507\" rel=\"smarttag\" rev=\"2507\">Taylor Menke<\/a><\/dfn> and Hoeme) scoring their first career points.<\/p>\n<p>Fort Hays State remains home on Saturday, Nov. 22 for a contest with Cameron.\u00a0 Game time from Gross Coliseum is 2 p.m.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;
