Fort Hays State University will host lectures and workshops for the Kansas Artists and Craftsmen Association conference in Rarick Hall on the FHSU Campus from 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 7 and 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 8, giving a look into the professional art world as high profile speakers gather at FHSU.<\/p>\n
Registration and introductions will kick off the events for the conference beginning on at 8:30 a.m. on Friday.<\/p>\n
\u201cHow to Deface Adversity–Where the Wu Tang and Worcester Porcelain Intersect\u201d is Friday\u2019s keynote lecture. This lecture will be given by Roberto Lugo. Lugo will also conduct two lectures, \u201cExquisite Narrative\u201d and \u201cExposing Oneself.\u201d<\/p>\n
Saturday\u2019s lecture, \u201cThe Artist as Craftsman\u201d is being presented by Paul Andrew Wandless. Wandless is an assistant professor of art at Harold Washington College in Chicago.<\/p>\n
\u201cScreen and Relief Printing on Clay\u201d and \u201cHow to Write an Article,\u201d are the workshops that Wandless will present.<\/p>\n
\u201cClay and Steel– A Hot Combination\u201d with Virginia McKinney, \u201cFiber Fusion and Thread Painting\u201d with Marilyn Grisham, and \u201cCrochet Connection\u201d with Stephanie Lanter, are the other workshops being offered during the conference.<\/p>\n
A silent auction is also planned\u00a0from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, with\u00a0proceeds supporting the KACA. The silent auction will feature original pieces donated by members of the Kansas Artists and Craftsmen Association.<\/p>\n
Original works created by members of the KACA are currently being shown in the Moss-Thorns Gallery of Art in Rarick Hall, Room 102. These works are for sale, and are being shown through the end of the conference.<\/p>\n
