{"id":13571,"date":"2014-10-01T15:42:50","date_gmt":"2014-10-01T20:42:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tigermedianet.com\/?p=13571"},"modified":"2017-08-14T10:36:34","modified_gmt":"2017-08-14T15:36:34","slug":"center-for-civic-leadership-october-schedule","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tigermedianet.com\/?p=13571","title":{"rendered":"Center for Civic Leadership event schedule"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Over the next several weeks, the Center for Civic Leadership will be hosting a number of events and activities that promote civic engagement.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>September 29 &#8211; October 18<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>Canned Food Drive<br \/>\n<\/strong><em>Tigers In Service<br \/>\n<\/em>Crates will be outside of Room 202 in Custer Hall for Tigers to donate non-perishable food items in honor of World Food Day, October 16th. This is a competition between organizations. Twenty items donated equals one service hour. All donated items will, in turn, be donated to Fort Hays\u2019 new campus food pantry.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Month of October<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>The Red Flag Campaign (RFC)<br \/>\n<\/strong><em>Women\u2019s Leadership Project<\/em><br \/>\nThe Red Flag Campaign is a public awareness campaign designed to address dating\/domestic violence and promote the prevention of dating violence on college campuses.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>October 4<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>Self Defense Workshop<br \/>\n<\/strong><em>Women\u2019s Leadership Project and Defensive Tactics Club<\/em><br \/>\nWLP will partner with the Defensive Tactics Club to host the 7th seminar to coincide with Domestic Violence Awareness month and the RFC. Students will learn self-defense basics and techniques.<br \/>\n9:00 am &#8211; Noon, Cunningham Hall Room 110<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>October 6 and 7<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>RFC Promotional Tables<br \/>\n<\/strong><em>Women\u2019s Leadership Project<\/em><br \/>\nImportant information will be handed out regarding The Red Flag Campaign events and resources for students. T-shirts will also be sold and flags can be personalized.<br \/>\n11:00 am-1:00 pm, Memorial Union<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>October 6 &#8211; 17<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>American Democracy Poster Project<br \/>\n<\/strong><em>American Democracy Project<\/em><br \/>\nGraphic design students will create posters displaying their views about current issues and democracy through a poster exhibition and contest. Students will be able to vote for 1st through 3rd place for the posters that are on display.<br \/>\nAll Day, Memorial Union<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>October 8<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>Times Talk: \u201cThe Red Flag Campaign and Bystander Intervention\u201d<\/strong><br \/>\n<em>American Democracy Project and Women\u2019s Leadership Project<\/em><br \/>\nThe WLP staff (Christie, Holly, Kaiti and Sadie) will be speaking about The Red Flag campaign, explaining what it is, and how it works to bring awareness to the issue of dating violence.<br \/>\n12:30 pm-1:30 pm, South Study Area,Forsyth Library<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>October 11<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>Walk To End Alzheimer&#8217;s<br \/>\n<\/strong><em>Tigers In Service<\/em><br \/>\nVolunteers will be running different stations at the Hays Walk for Alzheimer\u2019s. Email service@fhsu.edu to volunteer!<br \/>\nGross Memorial Coliseum<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>October 11<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>Tiger Reach-American Football Game<\/strong><br \/>\n<em>Global Leadership Project<br \/>\n<\/em>The Tiger Reach members are encouraged to attend a FHSU football game with their partner.<br \/>\n7:00 pm, Lewis Field<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>October 15<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>Times Talk: \u201cMid-Term Elections: What to Expect\u201d<br \/>\n<\/strong><em>American Democracy Project<\/em><br \/>\nDr. Joseph Romance will be discussing information about what is going on in Kansas this election year.<br \/>\n12:00-1:00, South Study Area, Forsyth Library<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>October 15<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>Domestic Violence Summit<br \/>\n<\/strong><em>Women\u2019s Leadership Project<\/em><br \/>\nTeaming up with Options Domestic and Sexual Violence Services, experts in the domestic violence field will speak about important laws, court orders, and programs.<br \/>\n8:00 am \u2013 4:00 pm, Hays Medical Center<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>October 17<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>Shack City<br \/>\n<\/strong><em>Leadership 310 Team and Global Leadership Project<\/em><br \/>\nStudents will have the opportunity to experience what it is like to live in poverty by spending a night in a shack that they will construct themselves from materials that they can bring or cardboard boxes that will be provided by the LDRS 310 team. Throughout the night there will be guest speakers, live band, games and dinner. Registration for this event is $20 and all proceeds will go to the Habitat for Humanity of Ellis County. This event will provide the opportunity for students to become educated about global hunger. Students will be a part of an effort to help feed the starving in other areas of the world right here in Hays, KS and will show that our university is willing to combat the issue of global hunger.
