The Hays Public Library has partnered with the Rudd Foundation to provide free tutoring services for K-12 students across Ellis County, expanding access to academic support for local families.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The program connects students with Fort Hays State University Rudd Scholars, offering help in a variety of subjects, including reading, writing, math, and science. The collaboration began with a simple connection: a former library assistant who was also a Rudd Scholar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThat\u2019s really where the idea started to take shape,\u201d said Hays Public Library Youth Services Manager Kayla Ford. \u201cWe realized there was a natural opportunity to connect students in our community with scholars who are passionate about helping others succeed.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tutoring is available for elementary, middle, and high school students. While sessions are typically offered on a walk-in basis, families can request a more consistent schedule.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe try to keep it as flexible as possible,\u201d Ford said. \u201cIf a parent wants something more regular, we work directly with the Rudd Scholars to make that happen so it fits everyone\u2019s schedule.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Students are encouraged to check in with tutors upon arrival, even during walk-in hours. Tutors will provide an estimated start time, allowing students to use other library resources while they wait.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe want students to feel comfortable using the library as a whole,\u201d Ford said. \u201cThey can read, study, or explore other areas until their session begins.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Parents must register their child through the Hays Public Library website before participating. The registration form allows families to share details about their child\u2019s academic needs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThat information really helps us tailor each session,\u201d Ford said. \u201cThe more we know, the better we can match the student with the right support.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In some cases, students may need more specialized assistance than the tutors can provide. To address this, the program offers staff the option to connect with teachers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe ask for the student\u2019s teacher on the registration form so we can collaborate if needed,\u201d Ford said. \u201cIf we see a student needs additional resources, we want to help point them in the right direction.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ford emphasized that the program reflects the library\u2019s mission to support education and lifelong learning in the community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAt Hays Public Library, we are committed to providing free resources and opportunities for personal growth,\u201d she said. \u201cThis program is especially important for families who may not be able to afford private tutoring but still want their children to succeed.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She added that the partnership continues to grow in impact.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
