ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – The 20th-ranked Fort Hays State women’s cross country team placed third at the 2024 MIAA Championships Saturday (Oct. 26), finishing third at the league meet for a second year in a row. The Tigers also had the individual champion for a second consecutive year, with\u00a0Emily Diercks<\/a><\/dfn>\u00a0placing first overall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The junior traversed the six-kilometer course in 21:30.9, four seconds in front of second place. Jaycee Vath<\/a><\/dfn>finished seventh in 21:49.6, earning first team All-MIAA status for a second year in a row. Taylor Hoskinson<\/a><\/dfn>secured honorable mention All-MIAA recognition with a 14th-place finish, crossing the line in 22:11.6.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Emma Weiner<\/a><\/dfn> and Ashlyn Harbaugh<\/a><\/dfn> rounded out the Tiger top five with a back-to-back finish in 26th and 27th, respectively, completing the trek in 22:28.3 and 22:28.4.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Tigers were just five points behind second-place Rogers State. Pittsburg State captured the team title with 55 team points.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fort Hays State will next travel to Joplin, Mo. for the 2024 NCAA DII Central Region Championships on November 9. The women’s six-kilometer race is slated to begin at 11:15 a.m.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Men<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Fort Hays State men’s cross country team placed eighth at the 2024 MIAA Championships Saturday (Oct. 24), with two Tigers receiving All-MIAA honors. The Tigers racked up 153 team points, just two behind seventh place, four back of sixth and 14 behind fourth place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jaret Pfizenmaier<\/a><\/dfn> led the Tigers to the line with a 15th-place finish, good for honorable mention All-MIAA status. The senior completed the eight-kilometer trek in a personal-best 24:16.4. Christian Darrah<\/a><\/dfn> crossed the line just behind his teammate, also earning honorable mention All-MIAA recognition with a 16th-place finish. Darrah turned in a time of 24:17.5.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Brady Stegman<\/a><\/dfn> traversed the course in 24:52.0, good for 29th place. Ethan Fisher<\/a><\/dfn> placed 41st with a time of 25:08.7, while Noah Morenz<\/a><\/dfn> rounded out the Tiger team scoring with a time of 25:28.9.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Northwest Missouri State secured the team title with 47 team points.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
