{"id":78530,"date":"2024-04-18T10:50:27","date_gmt":"2024-04-18T15:50:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tigermedianet.com\/?p=78530"},"modified":"2024-04-18T10:50:29","modified_gmt":"2024-04-18T15:50:29","slug":"fhsu-senior-organizes-event-for-members-of-idd-community","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/tigermedianet.com\/?p=78530","title":{"rendered":"FHSU senior organizes event for members of IDD community"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>By ALICIA FEYERHERM<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Tiger Media Network<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As part of her Health and Human Performance culminating experience, Fort Hays State University senior Kendra Clary is organizing the first-ever FHSU Adaptive Sport and Fitness Night.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The event, which will take place next Tuesday, is a night of sports and fitness aimed towards the Intellectual Developmental Disabilities community. According to Clary, the IDD community is largely underserved and struggles to meet the national Physical Activity guidelines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis program is to serve as a building block in the relationship between FHSU and the IDD community,\u201d Clary said. \u201c In HHP we are working to break down obstacles to physical health and wellness to all members of the community.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Clary is collaborating with FHSU Athletics, Tigers for IDD and the Arc of Central Plains for this event. Over 80 student-athletes will volunteer at the event to share their skills and play games associated with their specific sports.
