Warning: This article contains some spoilers for the story of \u201cBatman: Arkham Origins\u201d.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cBatman: Arkham City\u201d<\/a> was a massive critical and commercial success when it released in 2011 and is widely considered one of, if not the best, superhero games of all time, let alone one of the greatest games, period. Because of this, fans were eagerly awaiting the follow-up to that iconic entry, excited to see where their favorite Bat-themed superhero would go next. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, while Rocksteady was busy working on the conclusion to the series, \u201cBatman: Arkham Knight,\u201d Warner Bros. themselves soon churned out an entry fans were, at the time, not ready to accept: \u201cBatman: Arkham Origins.\u201d There were a few reasons why \u201cOrigins\u201d fared the way it did: High expectations following \u201cArkham City,\u201d a lack of innovation in the main gameplay, a new studio producing the game, but most of all, it being a prequel when fans wanted to see where the series went next, not where it started. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In place of developer Rocksteady, \u201cArkham Origins\u201d was produced by Warner Bros. Montreal, as Rocksteady was making the final entry in the original series, \u201cBatman: Arkham Knight.\u201d This was also the first game not to involve DC writer Paul Dini, and was instead written by production company Sekretagent Productions.\u00a0<\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

However, over time, the reception to \u201cArkham Origins\u201d has warmed up, and many fans see it as a forgotten gem in the series. Despite this, \u201cOrigins\u201d is still completely forgotten by many people, including Warner Bros. and Rocksteady themselves. While both \u201cArkham Asylum\u201d<\/a> and \u201cArkham City\u201d were both remastered and later bundled with \u201cArkham Knight\u201d as the \u201cArkham Collection\u201d, \u201cArkham Origins\u201d is still stuck on past-gen hardware, with a remaster still highly unlikely. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

That\u2019s a shame because while \u201cArkham Origins\u201d certainly has its problems, it is still an excellent game and a worthwhile entry in the iconic superhero series. From its absolutely phenomenal story, great performances from the new cast, great atmosphere and the same excellent combat and stealth mechanics, \u201cBatman: Arkham Origins\u201d deserves so much more recognition than it gets and should be held right next to its excellent siblings. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
