POTEAU, Okla. – Two Fort Hays State women’s wrestlers traveled to compete unattached at the Viking Open on Sunday (Nov. 12), hosted by Carl Albert State College. Both placed in the tournament as\u00a0Piper <\/a>Cadden finished<\/dfn> third at 130 pounds, and\u00a0Hannah Selle<\/a><\/dfn>\u00a0took sixth at 109 pounds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cadden went 4-1 on the day. She scored a pair of technical falls in the opening round and quarterfinals before falling by decision in the semifinals to eventual weight class champion Bella Williams, who competed unattached and has been a USA Wrestling freestyle national champion. On the backside of the bracket, Cadden posted a pair of technical fall shutouts (10-0 and 13-0) to finish third. All of her wins came against a pair of NAIA-ranked wrestlers that she beat twice in the tournament.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Selle went 2-3 for the day. She lost in the opening round by fall to the No. 1 ranked wrestler at 109 pounds in the NJCAA, but then reeled off a pair of wins in the consolation bracket. She won by fall and scored a tight 11-10 decision to reach the consolation semifinals. She dropped her final two matches, but the fifth-place match was a 7-7 tie that she lost on criteria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cadden has now wrestled in a pair of tournaments this year and holds a record of 8-1, while it was Selle’s first action of 2023-24. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
