Fort Hays State University\u2019s Student Government Association is offering transportation to and from the polling site located at Messiah Lutheran Church today. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This polling site serves the first and second precincts of wards one and three in Hays and includes individuals living on campus. <\/p>\n\n\n

Rides to the polling site will begin at 8 a.m. and will be offered every 30 minutes. The final ride to the polling site will depart at 5 p.m. Students, faculty, staff and community members are all welcome to use this service. Rides will depart from the circle driveway of the FHSU Memorial Union.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

SGA has not offered this service in the past, but Student Government President Ella Burrows says that her administration is dedicated to ensuring accessible voting for students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This access is even more important following the closure of the polling location that used to be at the Extension Office.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThat location was so much closer to campus,\u201d Burrows said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Burrows hopes that this service further promotes civic engagement and voter turnout. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt is imperative that all voices within our democracy are heard, and that each eligible voter has the opportunity to have a say in who will make decisions on their behalf,\u201d Burrows said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Burrows says this also ties in with the mission of the university as a whole.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
