MONKEY ISLAND, Okla. – Fort Hays State sophomore men’s golfer Maddux Mills<\/a><\/dfn> finished third out of 100 golfers at the 2022 MSSU Men’s Fall Invitational this week at Shangri-La Golf Club & Resort, a par-72, 6,876-yard course. The Tigers placed 10th as a team at 44-over 908 across three rounds, finishing just two shots back of a tie for seventh out of 19 programs in attendance.

Mills finished the week at 4-under 212 following rounds of 1-over 73, 5-under 67 and even-par 72. He led the field with 15 birdies across the 54 holes while also leading the way in par-3 scoring at 3-under for the week. With five short holes on the course, the Liberal native circled a two six out of 15 times. Monday’s second-round score of 67 is the lowest score on record for a Tiger in at least 11 years.

In his first-ever competition on Monkey Island, Jackson Rader<\/a><\/dfn> opened the week with a 1-under 71 before finishing the tournament with rounds of 7-over 79 and 5-over 77 to place in a tie for 36th (11-over 227). The sophomore ranked second on the team with eight birdies on the week.

Tanner Copeland<\/a><\/dfn> turned in a three-round total of 14-over 230 after signing for rounds of 5-over 77, 8-over 80 and 1-over 73. The Plainville native recorded five birdies over the two days, including three in the final round. He tied with Mills with a team-low one double-or-worse on the week.

Parker Krob<\/a><\/dfn> bounced back in the third round, following up rounds of 12-over 84 and 9-over 81 to turn in a 5-over 77 over the final 18 holes. He finished in a tie for 78th at 26-over 242 for the week.

Bryce Cowan<\/a><\/dfn> finished in a tie for 83rd at 29-over 245 after recording scores of 12-over 84, 6-over 78 and 11-over 83.

Missouri-St. Louis and Henderson State tied for the team lead at 7-over 871 across three rounds, while Matt Jackman from St. Mary’s captured the individual title at 6-under 210.

The Tigers will continue their fall season next week (Oct. 3-4) when they make the short drive to Topeka, Kan. for the Ichabod Invitational at Topeka Country Club.
