{"id":63225,"date":"2022-02-07T15:33:12","date_gmt":"2022-02-07T21:33:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tigermedianet.com\/?p=63225"},"modified":"2022-02-07T15:33:14","modified_gmt":"2022-02-07T21:33:14","slug":"award-winners-recognized-at-fhsu-convocation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/tigermedianet.com\/?p=63225","title":{"rendered":"Award winners recognized at FHSU convocation"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>By UNIVERSITY COMMUNICATIONS<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Fourteen Fort Hays State University faculty, staff, and students were honored Friday afternoon during the 2022 spring convocation at the Beach\/Schmidt Performing Arts Center. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Three\nfaculty members were selected for the faculty awards from the fall 2021\nsemester, one each in the areas of teaching, scholarly activity, and service.\nEach person receives a $500 cash award, funded through the support of Commerce\nBank. The university deans provide $250 to the departments of the award\nwinners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Linda\nMcHenry, instructor of English, received the\nOutstanding Teaching Award.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr.\nGordon Carlson, associate professor of Communication Studies, was the recipient\nof the Outstanding Research and Scholarly Activity Award. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The\nOutstanding Service Award for the fall semester went to Dr. Donnette Noble, associate professor\nof Leadership Studies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The\nAdjunct Faculty of the Year Award recognizes an adjunct faculty member from\neach of the university\u2019s five academic colleges. Each winner receives a $500\ncash award. They are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Dr.\nJohn Mack, Department of History \u2013 College of Arts,\nHumanities, and Social Sciences.<\/li><li>Brian\nHurley, Department of Informatics \u2013 Robbins College\nof Business and Entrepreneurship.<\/li><li>Arlea\nCarmack, Department of Advanced Education Programs \u2013 College\nof Education.<\/li><li>Breanna\nTaylor, Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders \u2013 College of Health and Behavioral Sciences.<\/li><li>Laura\nHaffner, Department of Agriculture \u2013 Werth College\nof Science, Technology and Mathematics.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The\nPresident\u2019s Distinguished Service Awards recognize two staff members, one from\nUniversity Support Staff (USS) and one from Unclassified Professional Staff\n(UPS). The awards are presented for longevity, breadth of quality\ncontributions, and the significance of their dedication and commitment to the\nuniversity. Each receives a $500 cash award.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Linda\nKepka, senior administrative assistant for the Department of Economics, Finance\nand Accounting, was the USS winner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Derek\nJohnson, network operations manager in the Office of Technology Services, was\nthe UPS winner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The\nLes and Elizabeth Griffin Outstanding Service Awards were presented to two\nstaff members and two student workers in the university\u2019s daily operations\ndepartments. Each staff winner receives a $500 cash award, and each student\nwinner receives a $250 cash award.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Donna\nAugustine, horticulture supervisor in the Facilities and Planning Office, received the Griffin Family Outstanding Service Award for\nFacility Operations-Staff. Amber Neighbors from Wichita received the Facility Operations-Student award. She is a\nwarehouse\/delivery assistant in Central Purchasing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Maria Rohr\n\u2013 salad bar\/cashier for Chartwells \u2013 was the\nrecipient of the Outstanding Food Service-Staff award.
