PITTSBURG, Kan. – The Fort Hays State track and field team saw one record fall and posted four NCAA Division II provisional performances on day one of the Boo Rodgers Combined Events hosted by Pittsburg State.

Mattie Rossi<\/a> shattered her own record in the pentathlon by 173 points, compiling 3,670 points on the day to finish second in a loaded field. She opened the day with a personal-best 8.60 in the 60m hurdles, the second-best time in the team’s DII era and just six-hundredths of a second off the program record. She also recorded a personal best in the shot put (32-8.25) and an indoor PR in the 800m run (2:24.94). Both her pentathlon total and her 60m hurdle time are NCAA DII provisional qualifying marks.

Taylor Savolt<\/a> also posted a pair of provisional marks on the day, placing fifth out of 31 competitors with a total of 3,508 points. That mark also would have broken Rossi’s school record from last season. The Garden City, Kan. native also cleared the provisional threshold in the long jump, clearing a personal-best distance of 18-7.75 to tie for fourth on the Tiger DII performance chart. Savolt also had PRs in the 60m hurdles (9.04), high jump (4-11.5) and an indoor PR in the 800m run (2:28.36). Her 60m hurdles time of 9.04 is good for seventh on the DII era performance chart.

Ellie Dusselier<\/a> compiled 2,705 points across the five disciplines to place 22nd while recording personal-bests in the shot put (26-3.5) and 800m run (2:38.35).

Hadley Williams finished 24th with a total of 2,647 points. The true freshman had the 13th-best mark in the field in the long jump, clearing a distance of 16-4.5.

On the men’s side, Nolan Churchman<\/a> posted personal-bests in all four disciplines on day one of the heptathlon and became the first Tiger to top 3,000 points in the first half of the event after racking up 3,041 points on Friday. He led the field in the long jump, finishing one-half inch shy of a provisional mark after clearing 23-4, a mark that ties for seventh on the team’s DII era indoor performance chart. Churchman also finished second in the high jump with a clearance of 6-4.75 and was third in the 60m dash with a time of 7.07.

Pakkebier picked up 2,591 points on day one, including a personal-best toss of 42-7 in the shot put. He opened the day with a time of 7.33 in the 60m dash, picking up a top point total of 769.

Churchman and Pakkebier will wrap up competition with the final three events of the heptathlon Saturday morning (Dec. 4) beginning at 9 a.m. before the rest of the team opens the season with the Crimson & Gold Invitational beginning at noon.
