As the fall semester draws to a close, Fort Hays State University\u2019s Student Government Association still has business to take care of.
<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This past week, the student senators discussed procedures for their weekly meetings and gave updates from the committees and executive staff.
<\/p>\n\n\n\n
President Mark Faber shared what he learned in the President\u2019s Cabinet earlier in the week.
<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This included discussion on the rights of human research subjects, praise for FHSU\u2019s transfer program from Gov. Laura Kelly and the Kansas Board of Regents changing general education requirements.
<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Legislative Affairs Director Kendra Clary updated the group on the status of the new campus recycling campaign. The next step for this program is a trial in the Heather and Agnew residential halls.
<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Other reports came from the Open Educational Resource committee and the commencement committee.
<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Clary reported on the formers, stating that the committee approved a University 101 course specifically for online students in China. This course will include a newly-written book by an FHSU graduate assistant.
<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI noticed that they\u2019re very passionate people about getting the resources to students,\u201d Clary said.
<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The report from the commencement committee included information about the upcoming December graduation.
<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The ceremony will not be rescheduled on account of bad weather, visitors will sit at the top level of Gross Memorial Coliseum, and a Facebook Live will be available.
<\/p>\n\n\n\n
During the Open Forum, the topic of dead week came up, which is the week before finals during which instructors are not supposed to assign new material.
<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The FHSU Faculty Senate officially recognized dead week in the past, but discussion arose Thursday night after students senators acknowledged their instructors\u2019 confusion about the policy.
