The Fort Hays State women’s soccer team blanked Washburn, 2-0, on Sunday (Oct. 31) for Senior Day. The Tigers netted a goal in each half while holding the Ichabod attack to secure their seventh shutout victory of the season and eighth shutout overall. The Tigers improved to 8-7-3 overall and 5-6 in the MIAA, while the Ichabods fell to 9-6-2 overall and 5-5-1 in conference play. The Tigers wrapped up the regular season by winning four of the last five matches.

The Tigers netted their first goal in the 35th<\/sup> minute as Emily Hutchings<\/a> received a chain of passes from Jadyn Newell<\/a> and Hannah Mares<\/a> to score her second goal of the weekend, and the season. The next score came in the second half when Jordan Thompson<\/a> sent a laser that was just high, bounced off of the crossbar, and tapped in by Alex Hutton<\/a> with about 10 minutes to play. Neither team got much going offensively with only 13 total shots, nine of which were by the Tigers. Goalkeeper Deonna Wellbrock<\/a> posted her seventh shutout with two saves.

With the win, the Tigers punched their ticket for the quarterfinals of the MIAA Tournament next week by finishing eighth in the MIAA standings. The MIAA will release the official tournament bracket soon. First round games will be next Sunday (Nov. 7) at home sites of the higher seeds.

Prior to the match, Fort Hays State recognized eight seniors that played their final match at FHSU Soccer Stadium. The group includes Tessa Irvine<\/a>, Katie Evans<\/a>, Maja Persa<\/a>, Jordan Thompson<\/a>, Macy Decker<\/a>, Cailey Perkins<\/a>, Deonna Wellbrock<\/a>, and Zariah Smith<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Friday<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

KEARNEY,\nNeb. – The Fort Hays State women’s soccer team is coming home with a\nmuch-needed 3-1 victory over Nebraska-Kearney on Friday (Oct. 29). FHSU netted\ntwo goals in the first half and one in the second to seal the victory. The\nTigers improved to 7-7-3 overall and 4-6 in conference play, while the Lopers\nfell to 2-15 overall and 1-9 in the MIAA.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The\nTigers got on the board early when Jordan\nThompson<\/a> netted her fourth goal of the season off of a short\npass from Amanda\nRapaduski<\/a> in the fourth minute of action. The Lopers would\nrespond in the 17th<\/sup> minute by arching a shot into the top left of\nthe net. The Tigers were able to regain the lead at the end of the first half\nas Cailey\nPerkins<\/a> received a pass from Hannah\nMares<\/a> in the 37th<\/sup> minute and placed a nice shot to\nthe upper right corner of the net.\n\nThe Tigers sealed their victory in the second\nhalf with a score from Emily\nHutchings<\/a> when she received a through pass from Amanda\nRapuduski, tapping in her first goal of the season past the goalkeeper. The\nTigers finished with 18 shots and put 12 of those on target compared to only\nthree shots by the Lopers, all of which were on target. The Lopers recorded\nnine saves compared to two by Tiger keeper Deonna\nWellbrock<\/a>.

\nFort Hays State wraps up the regular season by hosting Washburn for Senior Day\non Sunday (Oct. 31) with kickoff scheduled for 1 pm. The Tigers can qualify for\nthe MIAA Tournament, potentially as the No. 7 or No. 8 seed, but must avoid\nfinishing in a tie for eighth with Rogers State. Both are tied for eighth right\nnow in the standings at 4-6. Both FHSU and Rogers State hold a head-to-head\ntiebreak with Northeastern State, which currently sits in seventh at 4-5-1.\n\n\n\n<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
