TOPEKA, Kan. – The Fort Hays State track and field team recorded one provisional performance and four top-three finishes at the Washburn Open Friday evening (Jan. 29).

Fort Hays State captured first place in the men’s distance medley relay, with the team of Joshua Doria<\/a>, Kaden Wren<\/a>, Ethan Lang<\/a> and Grant Bradley<\/a> combining for an NCAA Division II provisional time of 10:01.41. The Tigers were in third after the first two splits before jumping to first by the third leg and holding on for a win by less than three-tenths of one second over West Texas A&M.

Brooke Navarro<\/a> placed second in the 5,000m run after crossing the line in a personal-best 17:59.94. Abigail Stewart<\/a> finished sixth in the race, also posting a personal best after crossing the line in 18:18.13.

Robbie Schmidt<\/a> finished third in the 5,000m run with a time of 15:07.65.

The women’s distance medley relay team of Faith Little<\/a>, Mattie Rossi<\/a>, Emily Salmans<\/a> and Gretchen Kuffel<\/a> finished third with a time of 12:19.36.

Before running in the DMR, Rossi opened the day placing seventh in the long jump after clearing a distance of 17-7.00.

The Tigers will return to action Saturday at the UNK Charlie Foster Classic in Kearney, Neb. beginning at 11 a.m.
