{"id":50202,"date":"2019-11-01T11:11:53","date_gmt":"2019-11-01T16:11:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tigermedianet.com\/?p=50202"},"modified":"2019-11-01T11:11:57","modified_gmt":"2019-11-01T16:11:57","slug":"%ef%bb%bfmidland-marketing-gift-supports-fhsus-department-of-agriculture","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/tigermedianet.com\/?p=50202","title":{"rendered":"\ufeffMidland Marketing gift supports FHSU\u2019s Department of Agriculture"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>By UNIVERSITY RELATIONS<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Midland Marketing firmly believes in supporting Fort Hays State University and the surrounding community, and the company\u2019s new annual $1,000 Midland Marketing Agriculture Scholarship will support students at Fort Hays State University with a major or minor in agriculture. <br><br> \u201cWe are fortunate to have a great working relationship with the university, and we are pleased to be growing that relationship this year,\u201d said Kevin Royer, general manager. <br><br> Midland Marketing has also established the Midland Marketing Agriculture Technology Fund to support FHSU\u2019s Department of Agriculture with equipment and technology upgrades. <br><br> \u201cWe had already planned to increase our support of Fort Hays State University, but decided to apply for a matching grant offered through Land O\u2019Lakes that would double the impact of our gift,\u201d said Royer. \u201cThank you to Land O\u2019Lakes as we\u2019ve secured funding through their matching gift opportunity, and we\u2019re excited about the potential moving forward.\u201d <br><br> Discussing FHSU and the agriculture needs of today, Midland Marketing\u2019s Palco coordinator Anna Luna said, \u201cEverything in agriculture is so technology driven. That\u2019s what\u2019s nice about Fort Hays State University \u2013 it\u2019s the hands-on opportunity.\u201d <br><br> Luna, a 2007 FHSU agriculture graduate, said, \u201cThat\u2019s what I love about being a Fort Hays State alum. I, too, had the opportunity to go out into the field and gain real-world, hands-on experiences.\u201d <br><br> \u201cBy creating the Midland Marketing Agriculture Technology Fund, we\u2019re hoping to increase the opportunities for success within FHSU\u2019s Department of Agriculture,\u201d said Brian Staab, Midland Marketing board president. <br><br> \u201cThose in the agriculture business are facing more challenges than ever, and technology integration is critical,\u201d said Staab. \u201cIt is Midland Marketing\u2019s belief that students must learn as much agriculture technology as possible, which will not only prepare them for the current industry, but it will enable them to adapt to future technological changes.\u201d <br><br> \u201cCurrently, only 2 percent of the population is feeding the other 98 percent,\u201d said Dr. Clyde Cranwell, chair of FHSU\u2019s Department of Agriculture and the University Farm superintendent. <br><br> \u201cWe warn our agriculture freshmen every year that they\u2019re going to be expected to feed a larger population with fewer resources and more government regulations than ever before,\u201d he said. \u201cThankfully, our students are up to the challenge.\u201d <br><br> Cranwell said Midland Marketing\u2019s support is essential because students need to learn ever-changing technologies and how to use them in order to succeed in the field. FHSU, he said, does this with \u201chands-on\u201d application. <br><br> Midland Marketing\u2019s gift, he said, is also timely in another way. <br><br> \u201cThis gift has fortuitous timing,\u201d said Cranwell. \u201cThe opportunity to expand offerings in precision agriculture dovetail well with FHSU President Tisa Mason\u2019s strategic plan for the institution.\u201d <br><br> \u201cWe are grateful for the support of Midland Marketing,\u201d said Dr. Grady Dixon, interim dean of FHSU\u2019s Peter Werth College of Science, Technology and Mathematics. \u201cThey\u2019re not only impacting students\u2019 lives by offering scholarship support, but they\u2019re helping us to stay ahead of the curve with the latest technologies and equipment.\u201d <br><br> Midland Marketing has partnered with Fort Hays State since 1982.
