{"id":46520,"date":"2019-08-14T08:28:09","date_gmt":"2019-08-14T13:28:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tigermedianet.com\/?p=46520"},"modified":"2019-08-14T10:27:15","modified_gmt":"2019-08-14T15:27:15","slug":"storm-causes-damage-at-fhsu-campus-hays","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/tigermedianet.com\/?p=46520","title":{"rendered":"Storm causes damage at FHSU campus, Hays"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>A storm packing high winds, torrential rain and hail pounded Hays and the surrounding area Tuesday night.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The winds, reported to be at least 77 mph at Hays Regional Airport, damaged numerous power lines, trees and structures throughout Hays.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While multiple tree branches were broken in the Quad on the Fort Hays State University campus, the biggest extent of the damage was reported at the Akers Energy Center.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There, the high winds caused a portion of the north wall to fall. University crews worked through the night to make sure the structure was safe and begin repairs. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Power was restored, and normal university activities were scheduled for Wednesday &#8212; including move-in day in residential halls.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-video\"><video controls src=\"http:\/\/tigermedianet.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/IMG_1187.mov\"><\/video><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>During the height of the storm, thousands of Midwest Energy customers lost power, but the power company was able to repair downed lines throughout the night.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Several residents in lower areas of Hays had to deal with flooding once again as the heavy rain inundated portions of town.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The strong winds also toppled numerous semis along Interstate 70, causing traffic to be stalled for several miles late in the evening.
