Earlier this month, the American Democracy Project held a mock election allowing students to vote and voice their opinions on who they wanted to be the next president of the United States. Students could stop by the Memorial Union to cast their votes on which of the nineteen candidates they felt was best suited to lead our country.<\/span><\/p>\n

The following results are based upon the approximately 100 student voters that participated in the mock presidential election:<\/span><\/p>\n

Bernie Sanders … 44.89%<\/span><\/p>\n

Ben Carson … 13.26%<\/span><\/p>\n

Marco Rubio … 9.18%<\/span><\/p>\n

Hillary Clinton … 7.14%<\/span><\/p>\n

Donald Trump … 7.14%<\/span><\/p>\n

Carly Fiorina … 5.1%<\/span><\/p>\n

Rick Santorum … 3.06%<\/span><\/p>\n

Rand Paul … 3.06%<\/span><\/p>\n

Jeb Bush … 2.04%<\/span><\/p>\n

Ted Cruz … 2.04%<\/span><\/p>\n

Chris Christie … 1.02%<\/span><\/p>\n

Jim Gilmore … 1.02%<\/span><\/p>\n

Lindsey Graham … 1.02%<\/span><\/p>\n

George Pataki … 0%<\/span><\/p>\n

John Kasich … 0%<\/span><\/p>\n

Lawrence Lessig … 0%<\/span><\/p>\n

Martin O’ Malley … 0%<\/span><\/p>\n

Bobby Jindal … 0%<\/span><\/p>\n

Mike Huckabee … 0%<\/span><\/p>\n

The American Democracy Project organized this event to help raise awareness for students about each of the candidates and their beliefs, as well as to give the students a taste of how the election and voting process works. Students need to realize that it is not just their right to vote, but as citizens of the United States, it is their civic duty. The Fort Hays community needs to understand the importance of their votes, and that together they can make a real change within all levels of government.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
