Archivist for Fort Hays State University’s Forsyth Library Patty Nicholas, received the \u2018Award of Merit\u2019 from the Smoky Hill Trail Association for her organization and maintenance of the Smoky Hill Trail Archives.<\/p>\n
Nicholas is the head of the Center for Ethnic Studies, which maintains records and information about the heritage of Kansas.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Trail is important because it was a road that was used for people going out of Colorado during the gold rush,\u201d said Nicholas in a press release by FHSU.<\/p>\n
Nicholas began the project of reorganizing the archives in 2012.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe trail later became important for the military that were moving along the trail,\u201d said Nicholas in the same press release.<\/p>\n
Those wishing to view the archives may do so in the special collections room at Forsyth Library.
